Seton Hill traveled north for a PSAC West matchup with #5 Gannon on Wednesday evening.
The fifth ranked Knights used an early 9-1 run to build a lead they would not give up in an 83-57 victory over the Griffins. Gannon improves to 17-1 overall and 9-0 in the PSAC while the Griffins drop to 12-3 overall and 8-1 in the PSAC.
After
Hallie Cowan hit an early free throw for the Griffins, Gannon scored the next nine points as they took a 9-1 lead with 6:44 to play in the first quarter. The Golden Knights extended their lead to 16-3 with 2:28 left in the quarter. The Griffins then scored the last six points of the quarter, four from
Hailee Ford as SHU trailed 16-9 after one quarter of action.
Ford hit a three pointer to open the second quarter and trim the Gannon lead to 16-12. Gannon then used an 8-2 run as they built a 24-14 lead midway through the second quarter.
Hallie Cowan hit a three and Ford followed with a layin as SHU trimmed the lead to 24-19 with 4:12 left in the half. Gannon then closed the half on a 10-3 run as they led 34-22 at the halftime break.
Gannon started the second half by scoring the first nine points of the quarter as they extended their lead to 43-22 with 7:11 left in the quarter. Four straight from
Hallie Cowan and a basket from Helene trimmed the lead to 43-28 midway through the quarter. Gannon built their lead to 58-37 with just under a minute to play.
Mia Kalich scored the final three points of the quarter as the Griffins trailed 58-40.
The Griffins went on a 6-0 run as the cut the lead to 64-47 with 6:06 to play.
Ford led the Griffins with 23 points. Kalich finished with a double double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Hallie Cowan also reached double figures with 11 points.
The Griffins will host Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon as they continue PSAC West action.
