#13 Gannon Defeats Griffins in PSAC West Action

The Griffins continued PSAC West play on Wednesday evening as they traveled to #13 Gannon. 

Gannon used a couple big runs as they pulled away from the Griffins in an 88-59 victory.  SHU falls to 12-5 overall and 6-3 in the PSAC while Gannon improves to 13-2 overall and 8-1 in the PSAC.   

The first eight minutes of the contest were tightly played with neither team holding a large lead.  Gannon held an 11-6 lead before a three pointer from Edir Ortiz cut the lead to 11-9 with 13:07 left.  Ben Myers' jumper trimmed the lead to 13-11 with just over twelve minutes to play.  Gannon then went on a 16-2 run over a six minute stretch as they built their lead to 29-13 with 6:10 to play in the half.  Rashaad Williams hit a three to end the Gannon run and cut the lead back to thirteen points.  Gannon then went on a 9-2 run as they took a 38-18 lead with 2:40 left in the half.  The Griffins answered back with a 9-0 run, the final five coming from Camden Brewer as they trimmed the lead to 38-27.  Gannon led 40-27 at the halftime break.  

The Golden Knights scored the first eight minutes of the second half as they built their lead to 48-27 less than three minutes into the half.  An 8-2 run from the Griffins, behind four points each from Ortiz and Gabe Gillespie cut the lead to 58-41 with 11:21 to play in the second half.  Gannon put the game away with a 17-4 run as they extended their lead to 75-45 with just under eight minutes to play in the half.  

Ortiz led SHU with a double double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.  Gillespie added 12 points and nine rebounds.  Brewer and Williams each finished with 11 points.  

SHU will host Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon in another PSAC West contest.
