Seton Hill hosted Clarion in a PSAC West contest on Saturday afternoon in Greensburg, PA.
Clarion outscored the Griffins 8-6 in the second overtime period as they defeated the Griffins by the score of 87-85. SHU drops to 12-4 overall and 6-2 in the PSAC. Â
The Griffins jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead and led 12-6 after a three pointer from
Edir Ortiz at the 13:51 mark.Â
Rashaad Williams hit a three pointer to extend the Griffins lead to 20-13 with 10:56 to play before the half. A little later, the Griffins went on a 9-0 run, on five points from
Camden Brewer, to take a 29-15 lead with 6:18 left in the half. Clarion responded with an 11-0 run as they cut the Griffins lead to 33-31 with 1:10 to play. SHU led 36-34 at the end of the first half. Â
Clarion took their first lead of the contest less than four minutes into the second half as they led 45-44. Clarion held the lead until a three pointer from
Noah Wright and a basket from
Kedrick Curtis put the Griffins back in front 53-49 with 12:41 to play. Back to back baskets from
Gabe Gillespie extended the lead to 60-52 at the midway point of the half. Clarion then scored the next nine points as they took a 61-60 lead with 5:55 to play. The game featured three more ties as the teams finishes regulation tied at 68. Â
Williams opened the scoring in the first overtime period but the Golden Eagles scored the next five to take a 73-70 lead. Curtis tied the score at 73 with a three pointer with 2:26 to play. Clarion answered with a three and led 78-75 with a minute left in the first overtime period. Curtis hit a bucket and Gillespie hit two free throws with nine seconds left as SHU took a 79-78 lead. Clarion then hit one of two free throws with just over two seconds left to send the game to the second overtime period tied at 79. Â
Clarion scored the first five points of the second overtime period. A three point play from Curtis cut the lead to 84-82 with 2:08 to play. A
Brian Belade free throw and a Gillespie put back cut the lead to 86-85 with 40 seconds left. Clarion hit one of two free throws to take an 87-85 lead but the Griffins could not hit a shot and Clarion escaped with the win. Â
Curtis posted a double double of 29 points and 10 rebounds. Brewer finished with a double double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Gillespie added a double double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Williams also reached double figures with 11.
Seton Hill will travel to Gannon on Wednesday evening for another PSAC West contest. Â
