Seton Hill continued play in the 2025 PSAC Baseball Championships with a winners bracket final with the top seed from the east Millersville at Cooper Park in Millersville on Friday afternoon.
Millersville scored three unearned runs in the top of the 13th inning to defeat the Griffins 5-2 to advance to the PSAC Finals on Saturday. SHU continued play on Friday evening as they played California (PA) in an elimination contest. The Griffins went quietly and were eliminated from the tournament with a 3-1 loss to the Vulcans. SHU is now 37-15 on the season.
Millersville took a 1-0 lead over the Griffins in the top of the first inning. They used a one out walk and double to take the lead.
It did not take the Griffins long to tie it as they scored in the bottom half of the inning.
Jack Whalen led off with a single.
Owen Henne followed with an infield single. The Griffins tried a double steal and when the throw went into left field, Whalen scored to tie the game at one.
SHU took the lead in the seventh. After an out,
Brady McGuire walked and moved to second on a passed ball. He scored on a two out, RBI single from
Joe Fiedor.
Millersville tied the game at two in the top of the ninth with a leadoff homer. The Marauders added three unearned runs in the top of the 13th to take a 5-2 lead.
Henne, McGuire, Fiedor and
Jakob Haynes each had two hits for the Griffins.
Ian Korn threw 8 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 6.
Zach Herb and
Christian Zilli combined for 4 shutout innings out of the bullpen.
California used a bloop double that fell in short right field to take a 1-0 lead over the Griffins in the top of the third inning.
The Griffins tied the game at one with a two out solo homer from
Max Mandler after an offensive conference with head coach Marizzaldi. Mandler then hammered the first pitch he saw over the left field fence.
The Vulcans answered right back with two runs in the top of the seventh inning as they took a 3-1 lead. SHU loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with no one out but the Vulcans got a pair of strikeouts and a ground out to keep the Griffins off the scoreboard.
SHU will now wait until Sunday evening's selection show to see if they earned one of the four at large bids from the Atlantic Region for the NCAA Tournament.
