Seton Hill began play in the 2025 NCAA Division II Baseball Championships with a matchup with #4 seed California (PA) at Cooper Park in Millersville on Thursday afternoon.
SHU scored in each of their first six at bats and pounded out 14 hits in a 14-2 tournament opening win over the Vulcans. SHU is now 38-15 overall.
The Griffins used some two out magic to get on the board in the top of the first inning.
Max Mandler drew a two out walk.
Matt Frazetta singled thru the right side of the infield.
Brady McGuire then hit the first pitch he saw over the left field wall to give the Griffins a 3-0 lead.
SHU added three more runs in the top of the second inning.
Colin Ahr and
Jakob Haynes singled to open the inning. They moved up on a bunt from
Joe Fiedor.
Jack Whalen followed with a two RBI double to increase the lead to 5-0.
Owen Henne added a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0.
Seton Hill added four more in the third. With two outs, Haynes singled to score
Mark Black who was hit by a pitch. Fiedor singled and Haynes scored on a Whalen RBI single. Henne added two more runs with a double.
SHU continued to add on in the fourth on an RBI triple from McGuire and a sac fly from Black. Frazetta added an RBI single in the fifth as the Griffins led 13-0.
The Griffins answered a Vulcan run in the top of the sixth inning when Fiedor added a sacrifice fly.
Frazetta led the offense with 3 hits. Whalen, McGuire, Ahr, Haynes and Fiedor each had two hits. McGuire homered and doubled and drove in 4. Whalen and Henne each drove in three.
Ian Korn earned his 11th win of the season. He worked six innings, allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits while striking out four.
SHU will continue play in the regional on Friday afternoon at noon against Millersville.
