Baseball Wins West With Sweep of Slippery Rock

Seton Hill closed out the regular season in style on Friday afternoon as they played a doubleheader at Slippery Rock in PSAC West action.

The Griffins took game one by a 7-2 score before completing the sweep with a 6-0 win in game two.  SHU is now 35-13 overall and 21-7 in the west while the Rock falls to 31-18 and 16-12 in the west.  With the sweep, the Griffins win their seventh PSAC Western Division title.  

SHU got off to a fast start in game one.  With one out, Owen Henne homered down the left field line to give SHU a 1-0 lead.  Colin Ahr was hit by a pitch and Brady McGuire and Mark Black walked to load the bases.  Ahr scored on a sacrifice fly from Max Mandler and McGuire scored when Matt Frazetta reached on a infield single as the Griffins took a 3-0 lead.  

The Griffins added a pair in the second inning.  With one out, Jack Whalen walked and stole second and scored on a Henne RBI single.  Henne later scored in the inning on a failed pickoff attempt.  Seton Hill added two more in the fifth on an RBI single from Frazetta and RBI fielders choice from Michael Gregos. 

Henne finished with three hits and two RBI.  Frazetta added two hits and two RBI.  Ian Korn earned his ninth win of the year with another complete game win.  He struck out six.  

SHU again jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game two.  Whalen led off the game with a single.  He scored on an Ahr double.  Mark Black then homered to left field and extend the SHU lead to 3-0.  

The Griffins added another three spot in the third.  With an out, Henne homered.  Ahr singled and Frazetta doubled to put two runners on.  Black knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly and Max Mandler added an RBI single. 

McGuire was 3-3 in game two.  Whalen, Ahr, Frazetta and Max Mandler each added two hits.  Julian Minaya earned the complete game win in the shortened contest.  He struck out four and allowed just two hits in five innings.

SHU will open the PSAC Tournament against #4 seed from the east, Shippensburg at 1 PM on Wednesday afternoon in Millersville.
