Seton Hill continued play in the 2025 NCAA Division II Baseball Championships as they closed out their best of three series with top seeded Millersville at Cooper Park in Millersville on Saturday afternoon.
Seton Hill forced a winner take all game three with a 7-4 win in game two of the series. The Griffins then earned their third straight NCAA Atlantic Super Regional appearance with an 8-2 win over the Marauders in the third game of the series. SHU is now 40-16 overall while Millersville ends their season at 44-10.
The Griffins broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third when they scored three times.
Colin Ahr drew a leadoff walk. He moved to second on a
Joe Fiedor sacrifice bunt.
Jack Whalen singled to put runners on first and third.
Owen Henne made it 1-0 with an RBI single. Whalen then scored on an errant pickoff attempt.
Max Mandler followed with an RBI single to give SHU a 3-0 lead.
Millersville cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning. SHU responded with four runs in their half of the fifth. Whalen singled to lead off the inning. He scored on a two run bomb to left field from Henne. Later in the inning, Ahr knocked in two runs to increase the lead to 7-2.
Millersville scored a pair in the sixth and threatened late but
Zach Herb got a strikeout to end the eighth and then a ground out to end the contest.
Whalen led the Griffins with three hits. Henne,
Matt Frazetta and
Mark Black each had two hits. Henne drove in three and Ahr added 2 RBI.
Jon McCullough earned the win. Herb earned the save.
Game two was a pitchers dual between the Griffins Juilan Minaya and the Marauders Garet Blankenbiller.
SHU finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh. With one out,
Brady McGuire singled. Later in the inning,
Gage Wheaton came thru with a huge pinch hit RBI single to give SHU a 1-0 lead.
SHU added on in the eighth. Whalen drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a Henne bunt. Whalen later scored on a throwing error as SHU took a 2-0 lead.
Max Mandler then scored on a throwing error as the Griffins took a 3-0 lead. Millersville cut the lead to 3-2 with a two run homer in the bottom of the eighth.
The Griffins put the game away in the ninth with a five spot. Ahr was hit by a pitch and Wheaton drew a walk. Fiedor's bunt was thrown away with Ahr scoring. Whalen walked and Henne made It 5-2 with a single. Frazetta then followed with a two RBI single as SHU took a 7-2 lead.
Mark Black drew a bases loaded walk to make it 8-2.
Henne and Ahr each had two hits. Minaya earned the win with six shutout innings.
The Griffins await the winner of Atlantic Region II in next week's NCAA Atlantic Super Regional.
