Griffins Go Quietly in Game One of the Super Regional

5/23/2025 3:03:00 PM

Box Score Seton Hill continued play in the 2025 NCAA Division II Baseball Championships as they opened the best of three Atlantic Super Regional against East Stroudsburg at Creekview Park in Stroudsburg, PA on Friday afternoon.

The Griffins trailed 2-0 after one inning and managed just six hits in the contest as they dropped game one to the host Warriors by the score of 4-1.  ESU took a 1-0 lead in the best of three series with the game one win.  SHU falls to 40-17 while ESU improves to 39-14 on the season.

East Stroudsburg scored a pair of runs, all after two outs, in the bottom of the first inning.  Four straight two out hits led to the 2-0 lead for the Warriors.

SHU cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth inning.  Matt Frazetta led off the inning with a single to center field.  He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Brady McGuire.  After an out, Colin Ahr singled to right to score Frazetta and cut the lead to 2-1.

The Warriors added an important insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning with a one out double followed by a two out RBI single as the Warriors pushed their lead to 3-1.  East Stroudsburg added another insurance run in the bottom of the seventh inning on two hits that were just missed by Griffin outfielders.

Seton Hill threatened in the top of the ninth with three singles to load the bases with one out but a pop out and ground out ended the contest.

Jack Whalen and Frazetta each had two hits for the Griffins in the loss.

The Griffins will continue play in the Super Regional on Saturday afternoon with game two beginning at noon.
