Seton Hill played host to CalU on Wednesday afternoon as the Vulcans could not play on their home field so the Griffins were the road team at home in the PSAC West contest.
Lacey Lynn threw a five inning no hitter in game two as the Griffins swept the Vulcans in a pair of run rule games. SHU took game one by the score of 10-2 and the Griffins took game two by the score of 8-0. SHU is now 19-13 overall and 8-8 in the PSAC West.
The Griffins took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game one. With two outs,
Shelby Telegdy and
Brooklyn Fukushima had back to back doubles as the Griffins took a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Fukushima scored on an error to give SHU a 2-0 lead. The Griffins added a third run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from
Bre Athey.
SHU added two more runs in the third inning. Back to back doubles from
Grace Paredes and
Brooke Cleland extended the SHU lead to 4-0. Later in the inning,
Juliette Vybiral knocked in the fifth run with an RBI groundout.
After CalU scored a run in the third, the Griffins added five runs in the fourth. Cleland singled in a run.
Abby Smearman knocked in a pair of runs with a double to give SHU an 8-1 lead. Smearman and
Anna Kalkowski later scored on a error as the Griffins took a 10-1 lead.
Telegdy, Fukushima, Cleland and Kalkowski each had two hits for the Griffins in game one. Telegdy earned the win in the circle. She allowed two runs on five hits while striking out one.
The Griffins got on the scoreboard in the third inning of game two. With one out, Vybiral singled.
Kassidy Wittig walked. Athey then doubled to score Vybiral and Wittig as the Griffins took a 2-0 lead.
SHU added three more in the fourth. Smearman drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a
Taylor Schmitt sacrifice bunt. Vybiral walked to put two runners on. Wittig doubled to score two runs and extend the lead to 4-0. Fukushima followed with a single as the Griffins led 5-0.
The Griffins scored the final three runs in the fifth inning. Paredes walked to lead off the inning and Lynn was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. Smearman reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Schmitt singled to score two runs and extend the lead to 7-0. Wittig followed with a single as the Griffins led 8-0.
Wittig and Athey each had two hits for SHU. Lynn earned the win. She did not allow a hit and struck out two while walking three.
SHU will travel to Clarion on Saturday afternoon.
