Softball Sweeps a Pair From Clarion

Seton Hill continued PSAC West action with a doubleheader on the road at Clarion on Sunday afternoon.  

The Griffins defeated Clarion 10-8 in game one of the doubleheader.  SHU completed the sweep of the Golden Eagles with a 12-0, 6 inning win in game two.  SHU is now 21-13 overall and 10-8 in the west.  

SHU jumped out to a 6-0 lead over Clarion in the top of the second inning.  Brooklyn Fukushima, Anna Kalkowski and Abby Smearman all singled to load the bases.  Juliette Vybiral knocked in a run when she reached on a fielders choice.  Kassidy Wittig singled to reload the bases.  Bre Athey was hit by a pitch to force in a run.  Shelby Telegdy doubled to score two and give SHU a 4-0 lead.  Brooke Cleland walked to load the bases once again.  Grace Paredes added an RBI when she reached on a fielders choice.  Fukushima then drew a bases loaded walk to make it 6-0.  

Clarion got two runs back in their half of the second to cut the lead to 6-2.  SHU answered right back with a pair of runs in their half of the third.  Smearman was hit by a pitch and scored on a Vybiral double.  Vybiral scored when Athey reached on an error.

The Golden Eagles cut the lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the third.  The Griffins added two more runs on a two run homer from Anna Kalkowski in the fourth inning.  Clarion cut the lead to 10-6 with three runs in their half of the fourth inning.  The Golden Eagles added two more in the bottom of the sixth to trim the lead to 10-8.  

Wittig had four hits to lead the Griffins.  Kalkowski, Fukushima and Smearman each added two hits.  

SHU scored three times in the first inning of game two.  Wittig and Fukushima walked.  Two wild piches later, the Griffins led 1-0.  Fukushima then scored on a passed ball.  Grace Paredes drew a two out walk and stole second.  She scored on a Lacey Lynn RBI single.  

The Griffins added two more in the third on a two run shot from Lynn.  SHU added two more in the fourth on an RBI single from Wittig and a sacrifice fly from Cleland.  

Seton Hill put the game away with five runs in the sixth. Athey had an RBI single.  Cleland added two runs with an RBI.  Smearman knocked in the final two runs of the inning.  

Wittig, Cleland, Lynn and Vybiral each had two hits for the Griffins.  Cleland and Lynn each drove in three.  Lynn earned the win in the circle with a complete game shutout.  She allowed just three hits while striking out four.  

The Griffins are scheduled to host Indiana (PA) for a PSAC West doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
