Seton Hill hosted Indiana (PA) on Tuesday afternoon in a PSAC West contest in a cold, wet and windy Greensburg, PA.
SHU scored nine times in the sixth inning of game one for a 13-5, 6 inning win. The Griffins completed the sweep of the Crimson Hawks with a 14-11, 5 inning win in game two. SHU is now 23-13 overall and 12-8 in the PSAC West. IUP drops to 22-13 overall and 13-7 in the west. Â
IUP took a 3-0 lead in the second inning of game one. SHU got a pair back in the bottom half of the inning.Â
Grace Paredes singled and scored on a
Anna Kalkowski homer. The Crimson Hawks added a run in the third as they led 4-2. Â
Brooke Cleland homered to lead off the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 4-3. IUP got a solo homer in the top of the fifth and the Griffins answered that back with a
Shelby Telegdy homer in the bottom of the fifth. Â
SHU ended the game with nine runs in the sixth.Â
Brooklyn Fukushima doubled and scored on a
Grace Paredes single to tie the score at five.Â
Abby Smearman and
Kassidy Wittig added RBI singles as SHU took a 7-5 lead.Â
Bre Athey had an RBI double, Telegdy added an RBI single and Cleland also drove in a run with a single as SHU led 10-5. Paredes added an RBI ground out and the Griffins ended the game on an error by the Crimson Hawks. Â
Wittig, Telegdy, Cleland, Fukushima, Paredes and Kalkowski each had two hits in the win. Telegdy earned her 10th win in the circle. Â
The Crimson Hawks scored a pair in the top of the first of game two to take a 2-0 lead over the Griffins. SHU answered back with eight runs in their half of the first. Wittig singled to lead off the inning and scored on an Athey homer as SHU tied the game at two. Cleland followed with a solo homer to give SHU a 3-2 lead.Â
Juliette Vybiral drew a bases loaded walk. Wittig cleared the bases with a double as SHU took a 7-2 lead. Athey's RBI single increased the lead to 8-2. Â
IUP got a leadoff homer in the second inning.Â
Taylor Schmitt knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second. The Crimson Hawks cut the lead to 8-5 with a two run homer in the third. SHU added four more runs in the third. Fukushima had an RBI double. Paredes and Smearman also added RBIs in the inning. IUP cut the lead to 13-10 in the top of the fourth inning. Â
Vybiral scored on a Fukushima single in the fourth as the Griffins increased their lead to 14-10.
Wittig led the offense with three hits. Athey, Fukushima and Cleland each had two hits.Â
Lacey Lynn earned the win in the circle.
SHU will host Slippery Rock on Thursday afternoon in another PSAC West matchup.
