Win Streak Reaches 10 as Griffins Sweep Slippery Rock

Seton Hill continued PSAC West play on Thursday afternoon as they hosted Slippery Rock at the SHU Softball Complex.  

The Griffins used a six run third inning as they defeated Slippery Rock 8-3 in game one.  SHU completed the sweep with a 6-5 win in game two.  SHU is now 25-13 overall and 14-8 in the west.  The Griffins have now won ten in a row.  

The Rock scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead over the Griffins.  Slippery Rock used a leadoff homer to increase their lead to 3-0 in the third inning.  

SHU answered back with a six spot in the bottom of the third inning.  Abby Smearman led off with a walk and scored on a Kassidy Wittig double.  SHU tied the game at three when Shelby Telegdy reached on an error and two runs scored.  Brooklyn Fukushima gave SHU a lead with a sacrifice fly.  Grace Paredes and Anna Kalkowski followed with RBI singles as the Griffins took a 6-3 lead.  

Seton Hill added another run in the fifth on an RBI ground out from Brooke Cleland.  Telegdy led off the sixth with a homer to extend the lead to 8-3.

Telegdy earned her 11th win with a complete game effort.  She allowed just one earned run while striking out two.  

Wittig, Cleland, Paredes and Lacey Lynn all drew walks in the first inning of game two as the Griffins took a 1-0 lead.  Lynn added three more runs in the third on a three run shot to right center field as the Griffins took a 4-0 lead.  

The Rock cut the lead to 4-1 in the top of the fourth inning.  SHU scored a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Taylor Schmitt led off the inning with a homer.  Fukushima added an RBI single as the Griffins took a 6-1 lead.  

Slippery Rock scored a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth to cut the lead to 6-5.  Telegdy then came on in the seventh and got a strikeout with runners on second and third to end the game.  

Lynn drove in four to lead the Griffins.  She also earned the win in the circle.  Telegdy earned a save with a scoreless seventh.

SHU will host Gannon on Friday afternoon in another PSAC West contest on senior day.
