Griffins Sweep Gannon in PSAC West Doubleheader

Seton Hill closed out their PSAC West four game series with Gannon with a doubleheader in Erie on Saturday afternoon.   

Seton Hill broke out the bats in a 16-6 game one win over the Golden Knights.  The Griffins completed the sweep with a 4-1 win in game two.  SHU is now 28-10 and 14-6 in the PSAC West.  

The Griffins scored four times in the top of the first inning of game one.  Jack Whalen opened the game by hitting one over the left field wall to give SHU the quick 1-0 lead.  Owen Henne walked and stole second while scoring on an error as SHU took a 2-0 lead.  Matt Frazetta singled and Jakob Jaynes walked before Max Mandler scored them both to give SHU a 4-0 lead.  

SHU added three more in the second.  Joe Fiedor drew a leadoff walk and scored on Whalen's second homer of the game.  Ahr doubled and scored on a double from Haynes as SHU led 7-0.  

Gannon scored three times in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 7-3.  The Golden Knights added a fourth run in the bottom of the fourth.  

Seton Hill then put the game away with an eight spot in the fifth.  Mandler singled to lead off the inning and scored on a Michael Gregos two run shot.  Fiedor then tripled and scored on a Whalen double.  Henne singled to score Whalen and give SHU an 11-4 lead.  Later in the inning Ahr and Brady McGuire executed a double steal with McGuire stealing home.  Mandler closed out the scoring in the inning with a three run homer.  McGuire added an RBI single in the sixth.  

Whalen was 4-4 with 4 runs scored and 4 RBI on two doubles and two homers.  Mandler added three hits and drove in five.  Ahr also added three hits.  Haynes finished with two hits.  

The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two.  Whalen led off with an infield single.  He scored on an Ahr sacrifice fly.  SHU added two more in the second inning.  Gregos walked and scored when Mark Black homered to left center field. 

SHU increased their lead to 4-0 in the third.  McGuire doubled and scored on a Haynes RBI single. 

Whalen was 3-3 in game two.  Black finished with two hits including a two run homer.  Matthew Blanchard and Zach Herb each with three innings of scoreless relief.   

The Griffins will travel to Frostburg State on Tuesday afternoon for a non conference matchup.
