Seton Hill returned to PSAC West play as they hosted Clarion on Sunday afternoon at the SHU Softball Complex.
The Griffins and Golden Eagles split the doubleheader. SHU won game one by a 6-0 score and Clarion took the second game by the score of 13-11. SHU is now 14-6 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC while Clarion is 6-14 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC.
It only took the Griffins two batters in game one to get on the scoreboard.Â
Abby Dejidas drew a leadoff walk. She scored on a two run homer from
Shelby Telegdy.Â
Grace Paredes doubled and scored when
Brooklyn Fukushima reached on an infield single. Fukushima later scored on a double steal as SHU took a 4-0 lead. Â
The only other offense in the game for the Griffins was a pair of leadoff homers from Fukushima, one in the third and one in the fifth. Â
Fukushima was 3-3 to lead the offense. Telegdy also had a 3-3 game. Telegdy earned the win in the circle with the complete game shutout. Â
The Griffins took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two.Â
Brooke Cleland doubled in two to open the scoring. Â
Clarion answered with three runs in their half of the second to take a 3-2 lead. The Griffins retook the lead with six runs in the fourth. Cleland drew a leadoff walk and scored on a Fukushima double.Â
Kayla Vonstein then homered as SHU took a 5-3 lead.Â
Abby Smearman and
Olivia Calvetti each singled. Smearman scored on a wild pitch. Athey added a sacrifice fly and Paredes drove in the eighth Griffin run with a single to center. Â
The Golden Eagles put up a nine spot in the fifth inning as they took a 12-8 lead. Calvetti cut the lead to 12-9 with a RBI single in the fifth. The Golden Eagles got that run right back in the sixth with a solo homer. The Griffins cut the lead to 13-11 in the sixth. Athey tripled to lead off the inning. She scored on a Paredes double. Paredes scored on a Fukushima double. Â
Paredes, Fukushima and Calvetti each had two hits for SHU.
The Griffins will head to IUP for a PSAC West doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. Â
