Seton Hill began PSAC West play with a four game set with Indiana (PA) with a doubleheader on Friday afternoon in Indiana.
The Griffins opened the doubleheader with a convincing 19-1 win in game one. SHU completed the sweep with a 16-4 win in game two. The Griffins are now 15-3 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC. IUP falls to 3-15 overall and 0-2 in the West.
The Griffins took an early 1-0 lead in game one as
Owen Henne doubled and later scored as SHU took an early advantage. SHU added three more in the third.
Joe Fiedor was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.
Jack Whalen doubled to put runners on second and third. Henne doubled to score Fiedor and Whalen scored on a
Owen Mandler RBI groundout.
Jakob Haynes homered to give SHU a 4-0 lead.
SHU added three more runs in the fifth. Whalen and Henne doubled to put runners on second and third.
Owen Mandler was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Haynes then hit a sacrifice fly to score two runs and extend the lead to 6-0.
Brady McGuire added a sacrifice fly as the Griffins led 7-0.
Seton Hill put the game away with nine runs in the sixth inning. Whalen and Henne each had RBI singles.
Owen Mandler singled in two runs. McGuire doubled in a run and
Mark Black scored a pair with a single.
Colin Ahr added an RBI double and Whalen knocked in a second run with an RBI groundout.
Heath Fetchik,
Max Mandler and Ahr each knocked in runs in the seventh.
Henne led the offense with four hits. Whalen and
Max Mandler each added three hits.
Owen Mandler, Haynes, Black and Ahr each had two hits.
Jon McCullough earned his 6
th win as he threw five innings.
SHU scored five times in the top of the third inning of game two. With one out, Ahr was hit by a pitch. After the second out of the inning, Whalen reached on an infield single and Henne walked to load the bases.
Owen Mandler then cleared the bases with a double as SHU took a 3-0 lead. Haynes followed with a two run shot as the Griffins built the 5-0 lead.
The Griffins added another run in the fourth.
Max Mandler was hit by a pitch and moved to third on an Ahr single. Mandler scored on a Fiedor RBI groundout.
SHU added a pair in the fifth on an RBI double from McGuire and an RBI single from Black. The Griffins broke the game open in the sixth with seven runs. Whalen hit a three run homer. Haynes followed with a three run shot.
Max Mandler drove in the 15
th run with a single to center. Haynes added a second homer in the seventh inning.
Haynes led the offense with four hits, including three bombs while driving in six. Whalen added three hits and three RBIs.
Owen Mandler, Henne and Black each added two hits.
The Griffins will host IUP on Sunday afternoon as they close out the four game set.
