Griffins Sweep West Liberty

Seton Hill continued non conference action with a doubleheader against West Liberty in Greensburg, PA on Wednesday afternoon.

Seton Hill won game one by the score of 3-0.  The Griffins completed the sweep with a 10-4 win in game two.  SHU is now 13-5 overall.

Neither team got on the scoreboard over the first five innings of play.  Each team threatened in one of the innings but could not push across a run.

The Griffins finally got on the scoreboard using the long ball in the bottom of the sixth inning.  With two outs, Anna Kalkowski lined a homer over the left center field fence on an 0-1 pitch to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.  Brooklyn Fukushima followed with a single and scored on a long bomb from Brooke Cleland that cleared the foul pole in left field as SHU took a 3-0 lead.

Shelby Telegdy earned her sixth win of the season with a complete game one hitter.  She struck out two.  Kalkowski and Fukushima each had two hits.

West Liberty took advantage of a Griffin error and three walks to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two.

SHU answered back in their half of the first.  Abby Dejidas drew a leadoff walk and scored on a double from Bre Athey.  Athey then scored on a Grace Paredes RBI double.  Fukushima made it 3-1 on a two out homer to center field.

The Griffins added two more in the second on RBI hits from Athey and Paredes to increase their lead to 5-2.  SHU added two more in the third.  Back to back to back doubles from Fukushima, Lacey Lynn and Olivia Calvetti increased the lead to 7-3.

SHU added three more in the sixth.  Paredes doubled in a pair of runs and later scored on a throwing error as the Griffins took a 10-4 lead.

Athey, Paredes and Calvetti each had three hits for the Griffins.  Paredes drove in four.  Fukushima added two hits.  Lacey Lynn earned the win in relief.  She struck out five in five innings.

The Griffins are scheduled to host Clarion in a PSAC West doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
