Seton Hill began PSAC West play on Tuesday afternoon as they hosted CalU in a conference doubleheader.
The Griffins began PSAC West play with a pair of wins as they swept the Vulcans in the doubleheader. SHU took game 1 by the score of 9-1 in five innings. The Griffins completed the sweep with a 6-4 win in game two. SHU is now 11-5 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC West.
SHU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game one on a two out ground rule double from
Brooklyn Fukushima. The Griffins played long ball in the second inning of game one.
Bre Athey homered to left center field to lead off the inning. With two outs,
Abby Dejidas homered to center field as SHU took a 3-0 lead.
Seton Hill added three more runs in the third.
Brooke Cleland homered with one out. Athey and
Abby Smearman singled and both scored on a Dejidas double to give SHU a 6-0 lead. The Vulcans got one run back in the top of the fourth.
The Griffins then walked it off in the fifth. Cleland doubled to start the inning. Athey singled to score pinch runner
Kelleigh Pollock. Smearman singled to put two runners on. Athey scored on an error to give SHU an 8-1 lead.
Shelby Telegdy ended it with an RBI single.
Dejidas and Athey each had three hits in game one. Cleland and Smearman added two hits. Telegdy earned the win in the circle. She allowed a run on two hits while striking out five.
The Griffins took an early lead in game two with two runs in the first inning. Dejidas singled to lead off the inning. She scored on an Athey RBI double. Later in the inning, Smearman reached on an infield single with Athey scoring.
SHU added another run in the third. Fukushima singled and scored on a Smearman double as SHU led 3-0. CalU got two runs in the fourth on a two run homer as they cut the lead to 3-2.
Dejidas hit a two run shot in the bottom of the fourth as the Griffins increased their lead to 5-2.
Caroline Cherekos singled in Fukushima in the fifth as the Griffins took a 6-2 lead. Cal cut the lead to 6-4 in the top of the sixth inning.
Dejidas, Fukushima and Smearman each had two hits in game two.
Briahna McCombs earned the win in game two. Telegdy earned the save.
SHU will host West Liberty on Wednesday afternoon.
