Seton Hill continued their road trip on Saturday afternoon as they continued PSAC West play on the road at Clarion.
The Griffins used a 21-3 second quarter advantage to take a lead they would not relinquish in a 80-64 victory over Clarion. SHU improves to 20-3 overall and 14-2 in the PSAC.
After Clarion scored the opening basket of the game, the Griffins responded with a basket from
Sakeria Haralson and a three from
Hallie Cowan to take a 5-2 lead.
Mia Kalich tied the game at ten with a basket at the 5:37 mark. Clarion then went on a 10-0 run in less than a three minute span to take a 20-10 lead. SHU answered back with an 8-1 run on five points from
Hailee Ford to trim the lead to 21-18. Clarion hit a three late to take a 24-18 lead after one quarter of play.
The Griffins came out firing in the second quarter as they outscored the Golden Eagles 12-0 in the first five minutes of the quarter. SHU's defense forced turnovers which led to easy baskets for the Griffins.
Hallie Cowan and
Emma Fischer each hit threes and Kalich added two buckets in the run as SHU led 30-24 at the media timeout. Another Kalich layup and a Fischer steal and
Corinne Eisner basket extended the lead to 34-24. The Griffins outscored Clarion 21-3 in the quarter and led 39-27 at the halftime break.
The Griffins pushed their lead to 47-32 after baskets from
Hailee Ford and
Hallie Cowan at the 6:28 mark. Clarion then went on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to 49-42 with 1:43 left.
Hallie Cowan hit a three at the end of the quarter as SHU led 52-43 after three quarters.
Clarion opened the fourth quarter with a three before the Griffins scored 11 points on three straight three pointers and a layup. Kalich hit the first three pointer and Ford then followed with eight straight points as SHU led 63-46 with 7:10 left. Clarion scored five straight before a layup from
Paige Cole and two Eisner free throws pushed the lead back to 67-51 midway thru the quarter. Cole drilled a three at the four minute mark to extend the lead to 76-55.
Kalich had another double double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. She also added six assists and three steals.
Hallie Cowan also scored 16 points. Ford had a double double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. She added six steals. Cole and Bailey each added nine points.
The Griffins will have ten days off before returning to action on January 19th when they host Indiana (PA) in a PSAC West matchup.
