Seton Hill returned to action on Wednesday evening as they continued PSAC West play on the road at California (PA).
California led throughout most of the contest as they defeated the Griffins by the score of 88-76. The Griffins fall to 19-3 overall and 13-2 in the PSAC while CalU improves to 12-10 overall and 8-7 in the PSAC.
Both teams got off to fast starts in the contest as the game was tied at 15 at the first quarter media timeout. The Griffins got off to a quick 7-2 start behind five points from
Helene Cowan. Cal trimmed the lead to 11-10 before four straight from
Mia Kalich gave SHU a 15-10 lead. Cal closed the quarter on a 14-6 run as they took a 24-21 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Helene Cowan hit a three and Corrine Eisner followed with a basket as the Griffins took a 26-24 lead early in the second quarter. CalU responded with a 14-3 run as they took a 38-29 lead at the second quarter media timeout. SHU then closed out the half with a 7-4 run as they trimmed the CalU lead at the halftime break to 42-36.
The Vulcans built their lead to 51-40 three minutes into the third quarter.
Hallie Cowan scored four points and Kalich followed with a bucket as SHU trimmed the lead to 51-46 with 5:31 to play. Eisner's bucket before the third quarter media timeout cut the Vulcans lead to 54-48. Cal was able to extend the lead to 66-55 at the end of the third quarter.
Cal pushed their lead to 16, three minutes into the fourth quarter but five straight from the Vulcans cut the lead to 73-62 with 6:16 left. The Griffins would cut the lead to eight down the stretch.
Helene Cowan led three Griffins in double figures with 19 points.
Hallie Cowan added 18 points. Kalich posted another double double of 17 points and 12 rebounds.
SHU returns to action when they travel to Clarion for a PSAC West matchup on Saturday afternoon.
