Seton Hill made the short trip to California, PA on Wednesday evening as they continued PSAC West play with a road matchup with CalU.
After Seton Hill took an early 4-0 lead, Cal answered with a 17-0 run and never trailed again in a 74-53 victory over the Griffins. SHU falls to 13-10 overall and 6-9 in the PSAC while CalU improves to 13-10 overall and 8-7 in the PSAC.
SHU opened the contest scoring the first four points of the game on baskets from
Kedrick Curtis and
Gabe Gillespie. Over the next five minutes the Vulcans went on a 17-0 run as they opened up a 17-4 lead. The Griffins answered with a 6-2 run as they cut the Vulcan lead to 19-10 at the midpoint of the first half.
Threes from
Dimitrios Sklavenitis and
Gage Lattimore and a breakaway layup from
Ryan Meis cut the lead to 29-20 with 6:13 to play. Back to back baskets from Lattimore and
Camden Brewer trimmed the lead to 34-27 with 2:31 left but the Vulcans scored the final six points of the half to take a 40-27 lead at the halftime break.
The Griffins cut the lead to eleven at the 17 minute mark but the Vulcans answered with 10 quick points in a minute stretch to push their lead to 52-31 with 15:35 left in the half. Back to back threes from
Edir Ortiz and Meis cut the Vulcan lead to 56-42 with 9:31 left. Cal pushed their lead back to 19 points, 64-45 at the 4:47 mark.
Meis led the Griffins with 16 points. Curtis added 11 points.
The Griffins will continue their road trip as they travel to Clarion for another PSAC West contest on Saturday afternoon.
