Seton Hill traveled to Edinboro for a huge PSAC West and Atlantic Regional contest on Saturday afternoon in a battle between the top two teams in the PSAC West standings.
The Griffins came up on the short side of the scoreboard, falling by the score of 82-66. Seton Hill did have a player hit a career milestone in the loss as junior
Hallie Cowan eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark with a field goal at the 3:59 mark of the third quarter. SHU falls to 21-4 overall and 15-3 in the PSAC while Edinboro improves to 20-5 overall and 15-3 in the PSAC.
In the first three and a half minutes of the contest, the Scots jumped all over the Griffins, taking a 14-2 lead. Edinboro pushed their lead to 19-4 before a 7-0 run from the Griffins cut the lead to 19-11 with 2:23 to play.
Hailee Ford scored four points and
Abby Mankins added a three pointer. Edinboro led 21-13 at the end of the first quarter.
In the middle of the second quarter,
Helene Cowan hit a jumper and followed it with two three pointers to cut the lead to 28-25 with 5:34 left in the first half. Edinboro led 38-32 at the halftime break.
At the 3:59 mark of the third quarter, junior
Hallie Cowan went over the 1,000 career point mark on a layup that cut the Edinboro lead to 49-39.
Helene Cowan hit back to back three pointers at the end of the quarter to trim the lead to 60-47.
Baskets from Ford and
Hallie Cowan cut the lead to 60-51 with 8:05 left. Edinboro put the game away with a 13-0 run in a three minute stretch.
The Cowan sisters led the Griffins with 17 points each. Helene made it a double double with 10 rebounds. Ford reached double figures with 15 points.
SHU will host Pitt Johnstown on Wednesday evening.
