Griffins Defeat the Rock in PSAC West Action

Seton Hill hosted Slippery Rock in PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon in the McKenna Center.

The Griffins jumped out to a 13 point halftime lead and defeated the Rock by a 72-52 score.  SHU is now 13-9 overall and 6-8 in the PSAC while the Rock falls to 11-11 overall and 7-7 in the PSAC.  

Neither team was able to get off to a quick start as the game was tied at 16 midway through the first half.  A three from Gage Lattimore and a Ryan Meis layup put the Griffins in front 21-16 with 7:33 to play in the half.  After a Rock free throw, Meis and James Rice hit back to back threes to push the lead to ten at 27-17.  A quick 8-0 run from the Griffins over a two minute span extended the lead to 37-20 with 1:11 to play.  Lattimore and Edir Ortiz hit threes to end the run.  SHU led 39-26 at the end of the first half.  SHU shot 50% in the half while holding the Rock to just 30%.  

The Rock was able to cut the lead to ten at the 14:25 mark of the second half.  SHU responded with a 7-0 run to push the lead to 55-38 with 11:06 to play.  The Rock would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the half as the Griffins pulled away in the final minutes for the twenty point win.  

The Griffins shot 50% from the floor in the contest and held the Rock to just 33%.  SHU outrebounded the Rock by a 37-32 margin.

Gabe Gillespie led the Griffins with 19 points.  Kedrick Curtis finished with a double double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Ortiz, Meis, Rice and Lattimore each scored eight points in the win.

SHU will travel to CalU on Wednesday evening for another PSAC West contest.
