The Griffins hosted Lock Haven in a PSAC Crossover matchup on Wednesday afternoon as they closed out the home portion of their pre Christmas schedule.
SHU outscored Lock Haven 58-41 in the second half as they rallied for a 98-85 victory over the Bald Eagles. SHU is now 6-2 on the season and 2-0 in the PSAC.
Helene Cowan scored the first five points of the contest for the Griffins as they led 5-2 in the early portion of the quarter. A quick 5-0 run from Lock Haven gave the Eagles a 11-7 lead at the midpoint of the quarter. Lock Haven pushed the lead to ten before a 9-0 Griffin run cut the lead to 18-17 late in the quarter. LHU led 21-19 after one quarter of play.
The second quarter featured five ties as Lock Haven held the lead over most of the quarter before settling for a 44-40 lead at the halftime break.
The Griffins used a quick 10-1 run as they took a 50-45 lead just under two minutes into the third quarter.
Hallie Cowan and
Abby Mankins each hit three pointers in the run. Later in the quarter, the Griffins went on an 11-0 run over a three minute stretch as they took a 61-47 lead with 4:52 left in the quarter. Five different Griffins scored in the 11-0 run. Lock Haven battled back and cut the Griffin lead to 68-62 at the end of the third.
The Eagles hit a three to open the fourth and trailed just 73-69 with 8:45 to play. The Griffins used another 10-0 run over a two minute stretch as they built an 83-69 lead with 6:34 to play. Lock Haven would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the contest.
Helene Cowan led SHU with a game high 27 points. She added 7 assists and 4 steals.
Hallie Cowan added 19 points and 7 rebounds.
Mia Kalich finished with 15 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds and 6 steals in the win.
Emma Fischer added 12 points and Mankins finished with 11.
SHU will travel to Mansfield and Bloomsburg this weekend for PSAC Crossover action.
