Griffins Improve to 2-0 After Win at Frostburg State

Seton Hill played their second contest in the PSAC/MEC Challenge in Frostburg, MD on Sunday afternoon as they took on host Frostburg State.

The Griffins scored 58 second half points in the 99-93 shootout victory over the Bobcats.  SHU improves to 2-0 on the season while the Bobcats drop to 1-1.  

The early portion of the contest featured three ties in the first three minutes of the contest.  Camden Brewer put the Griffins in front by four with a three pointer at the 16:24 mark.  Over the next eight minutes, the Bobcats outscored the Griffins 25-10 as they took a 32-21 lead over the Griffins with a little under eight minutes to play in the first half.  The Griffins responded with a pair of three pointers from Edir Ortiz and James Rice as they cut the lead back to five points.  Frostburg pushed their lead back to eleven with just under five minutes to play.  SHU then closed the half on a 14-3 run to tie the game at 41 at the halftime break.  

The teams exchanged leads over the first ten minutes of the second half of play.  The first ten minutes featured six ties.  Kedrick Curtis scored four straight points and Brandon Coury hit a three as SHU led 78-73 with 7:57 left.  The game was tied at 80 at the five minute mark.  Two Curtis free throws and a three from Brewer gave the Griffins an 87-81 lead with 3:30 to play.  Two baskets from Ortiz and two Dimitrios Sklavenitis free throws pushed the lead to seven with just over two minutes left. 

The Griffins shot 54% from the field and 12-23 from three point land in the contest. 

Ortiz led five Griffins in double figures with 26 points.  Curtis finished with a double double of 22 points and 11 rebounds.  Sklavenitis added 13 points.  Brewer finished with 12 points.  James Rice added 10 points.  

SHU will play their home opener on Wednesday evening as they host Davis & Elkins.
