Seton Hill concluded play in the PSAC/MEC Challenge on Saturday afternoon as they took on Fairmont State in Athens, WV.
Fairmont State shot 40 free throws in the contest as they defeated the Griffins by the score of 77-76. SHU falls to 1-1 while Fairmont improves to 2-0. Â
The Falcons built an early 19-16 lead after the first quarter of action. Fairmont extended its lead to 44-36 at the halftime break. The Falcons shot an incredible 22 free throws in the second quarter. Free throws were 26-13 in the first half. Â
The Griffins outscored the Falcons 20-14 in the third quarter as they cut the lead to 58-56 after three quarters. Â
SHU battled back to take a 66-65 lead on a
Mia Kalich three pointer with 6:46 left in the fourth. Fairmont retook the lead before Shaye Bayley hit a three with 1:27 left to tie the score at 74.Â
Hallie Cowan answered a pair of FSU free throws and tied the game at 76 with 44 seconds left. Fairmont hit one of two free throws with 3 seconds left and the Griffins last second shot came up short. Â
Fairmont State finished with 40 free throws to just 17 for the Griffins. 33 fouls were called on the Griffins to just 20 on Fairmont.
Hallie Cowan led the Griffins with 23 points. Bailey also reached double figures with 12 points.Â
Hailee Ford added eight points and 12 rebounds. Â
SHU will host Malone on Tuesday afternoon at 3 PM. Â
