Seton Hill kicked off their season on the road in Frostburg, MD with a matchup in the PSAC/MEC Challenge against Bluefield State on Saturday evening.
The Griffins outscored the Big Blue 50-38 in the second half in route to a 77-72 victory.
SHU took an early 5-2 lead over Bluefield State at the 15:19 mark of the first half. The Big Blue tied the score at five and never trailed over the rest of the first half, increasing their lead to as many as 13 points before settling for a 34-27 halftime lead.
Dimitrios Sklavenitis hit a three at the buzzer to trim the lead under double figures.
Three straight layups from
Kedrick Curtis, Sklavenitis and
Edir Ortiz cut the lead to one at 36-35 early in the second half. Bluefield built their lead back to as many as eight points but a three pointer from
Camden Brewer tied the score at 50 with just over ten minutes left. SHU was able to push their lead to as many as eight but the Big Blue took a 67-64 lead with under four minutes left. Three points from
Rashaad Williams tied the score at 70 with 1:21 left. Curtis' tip in with seven seconds left put the game away for SHU.
Curtis led the Griffins with 21 points. Ortiz added 16 points and Sklavenitis added 14.
SHU will play host Frostburg State on Sunday afternoon.
