Seton Hill kicked off their 2025-26 season at the PSAC/MEC Challenge in Athens, WV on Friday afternoon with a matchup with the host Concord.
The Griffins won a back and forth contest by the score of 91-87 as they improve to 1-0 on the season.
The first quarter featured five ties and multiple lead changes as Concord took a 17-16 lead over the Griffins after one quarter of play. A layup from
Mia Kalich gave SHU a 24-20 lead with six minutes left in the half. Two free throws from
Hallie Cowan pushed the lead to four with three minutes left. Back to back baskets from
Hailee Ford gave the Griffins a 43-40 lead at the halftime break.
Concord built an eight point lead just three minutes into the second half at 53-45. The Griffins responded with a 16-0 run over the next four minutes as they took a 61-53 lead. A three pointer from
Mo Vincent gave SHU their biggest lead of the contest at ten, 67-57 with 2:09 left. SHU led 72-65 after three quarters of action.
A layup from
Hallie Cowan gave SHU an 82-73 lead with 5:50 left in the half. Concord scored six straight before a
Shaye Bailey three gave SHU an 85-79 lead with 4:05 left. Concord then went on an 8-0 run to take an 87-85 lead with 2:18 left. Two
Hallie Cowan free throws tied the game at 87. Ford and
Hallie Cowan then each hit one of two free throws as SHU led 89-87 with 11 seconds left. After a defensive stop,
Helene Cowan hit two free throws to put the game away.
Helene Cowan and Bailey led the Griffins with 16 points each.
Hallie Cowan added 15 points. Ford added 13 points.
Abby Mankins finished with 12 and Kalich added 10.
SHU will next play Fairmont State on Saturday afternoon in the PSAC/MEC Challenge at Concord.
