Volleyball Wins in Four at CalU

Seton Hill kicked off round two of PSAC West action with a road contest at California (PA) on Friday evening.

The Griffins made it two in a row over the Vulcans as they picked up a road win in four sets.  SHU is now 11-9 overall and 3-5 in the PSAC West.

The Griffins took an early 7-3 lead in the opening set of the match.  Kills from Payton Rodberg and Emma Meurer extended the lead to 10-5 and forced the Vulcans to take a timeout.  A block from Catie Flohr and Ella Deeter and a Flohr kill pushed the advantage to 14-7.  CalU battled back to within three at 18-15 but the Griffins took advantage of two CalU errors and a Mallory Meinen ace to take a 21-15 lead.  CalU ran off five in a row to cut the lead to 21-20.  Back to back kills from Flohr gave SHU a set point at 24-21.  Flohr ended the set with a kill as SHU took the first set 25-22.

Neither team was able to take more than a two point lead in the early portion of the first set until the Griffins went on a 6-0 run on the serve of Meinen to take a 13-7 lead.  Meinen had two aces in the run.  Seton Hill extended their lead to 20-13 on back to back kills from Meurer.  Two more kills from Rodberg extended the lead to 22-13 and forced another Vulcan timeout.  Meinen ended the set with a kill as SHU took a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 win.

California jumped out to a 9-5 lead over the Griffins in the third set.  Three straight from the Griffins cut the CalU lead to 12-10.  CalU then outscored the Griffins 13-3 over the rest of the set to cut the Griffins lead to 2-1 in the match.

A block and a kill from Elizabeth Kolkowski and an ace from Maddie Stout gave SHU a 9-6 lead in the fourth set.  SHU extended its lead to 12-7.  SHU then used a 6-1 run to take a 21-13 lead.

Flohr led the Griffins with 15 kills.  Rodberg finished with nine while Meurer and Stout each added eight.  Deeter added seven kills while Kolkowski finished with six.  Meinen had 22 assists while Haley Reed finished with 14.  Meurer had six blocks and Kendyl Wagner finished with 29 digs.

The Griffins will host Clarion next Friday evening in another PSAC West contest.
