Seton Hill closed out the first half of section play as they hosted California (PA) in a PSAC West matchup in the McKenna Center on Wednesday evening.
The Griffins rallied from 2-1 down to defeat the Vulcans 3-2 in five sets. SHU is now 10-9 overall and 2-5 in the west while CalU falls to 15-7 overall and 2-5 in the west.
SHU jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the first set only to see the Vulcans close out the set on a 19-11 run as they took a 1-0 lead over the Griffins. The Griffins rallied in the second set as they built a 16-8 lead. SHU then put the set away with a late 6-0 run as they took the second set to even the match at one with a 25-14 second set win.
CalU led for most of the third set as they took a 2-1 lead over the Griffins with a 25-21 third set win. The fourth set was all Seton Hill as they opened the set with 16 straight points behind the serve of
Kendyl Wagner. Wagner netted four aces during the 16-0 run. SHU tied the match at two with a 25-5 fourth set win.
The Vulcans took a 5-2 lead in the fifth set. SHU used a 4-1 run as they took a 9-7 lead in the set. Kills from
Catie Flohr and
Elizabeth Kolkowski pushed the Griffin lead to 14-10. Flohr ended the match with a kill that gave SHU a 15-12 fifth set win.
Flohr led SHU with 17 kills. Kolkowski added 11 kills.
Ella Deeter finished with nine kills.
Haley Reed and Deeter each had 25 assists to lead the offense.
Emma Meurer led SHU with seven blocks. Wagner led SHU with five aces and 22 digs.
SHU will travel to CalU on Friday evening for another PSAC West contest.
