The Griffins women's basketball team returned home for a PSAC West matchup with Clarion on Wednesday evening in the McKenna Center.
SHU used a big advantage in the first and fourth quarter as they pulled away for a 92-68 victory over the Golden Eagles. SHU is now 14-1 overall and 8-0 in the PSAC. Â
Back to back three pointers from
Shaye Bailey and
Hallie Cowan gave SHU a 12-5 lead at the 4:30 mark of the first quarter. Back to back buckets from Bailey extended the lead to 18-7 with 3:02 to play in the quarter. The Griffins led 26-14 at the end of the first quarter. Â
Layups from
Mia Kalich and Bailey extended the lead to 30-14 in the first minute of the second quarter. Clarion then went on a 16-4 run as they cut the Griffins lead to 34-30 with 1:38 left in the first half. Seton Hill led 40-36 at the end of the first half. Â
Clarion was able to tie the score at 48 at the midpoint of the third quarter. Over the next three minutes, the teams exchanged the lead seven times.Â
Hallie Cowan scored the final eight points of the quarter for the Griffins as they carried a 67-60 lead into the fourth quarter. Â
Over the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, the Griffins outscored Clarion 14-0 to take an 81-60 lead.Â
Hallie Cowan had five points during the run and
Sakeria Haralson added four. Seton Hill was able to push their lead to as many as 26 points before settling for the 24 point win. Â
Hallie Cowan led the Griffins with 25 points.Â
Helene Cowan added 15 points. Kalich had a double double of 14 points and 23 rebounds in the win.Â
Christiane Frye also scored 14 points. Bailey also reached double figures with 10 points. Â
Kalich's 23 rebounds are the second most in a game in the PSAC this season. The 23 rebounds ate the most by a Griffin since SHU joined the PSAC.
The Griffins will continue PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon when they host CalU.Â
