Seton Hill returned home for a PSAC West matchup with Clarion on Wednesday night in the McKenna Center.
The Griffins shot over 55% from the floor and nearly 50% from three as they defeated the Golden Eagles by the score of 87-85. SHU improves to 10-6 on the season and 3-5 in the PSAC. Â
Edir Ortiz scored the first seven points of the contest for the Griffins as they took an early 7-4 lead three minutes into the contest. A layup from
Kaspar Martenson and a three from
Ryan Meis pushed the Griffins lead to 12-6 at the fifteen minute mark. Clarion battled back to take a 16-15 lead at the midway point of the first half. Â
Clarion led 26-21 with eight minutes to play but the Griffins responded with a 13-2 run as they took a 34-28 lead with 5:16 to play on a three from Ortiz.Â
Camden Brewer opened the run by hitting back to back three pointers. Threes from Meis and Ortiz gave the Griffins a 45-37 lead at the halftime break. Â
Kedrick Curtis scored the opening basket of the second half to push the lead to ten points. The Golden Eagles trimmed the lead to four before Meis and Curtis hit threes and Ortiz made a layup to push the lead back to ten at 57-47 with 15:30 to play in the half. A
James Rice three pointer gave the Griffins a 12 point lead, 66-54 with 11:31 to play. Â
The Golden Eagles cut the lead back to 72-69 on a three point play with 6:29 to play. After a Curtis bucket, Clarion hit a three and trailed 74-72 with 4:22 to play. Meis drilled a three to give SHU an 81-77 lead with 2:06 to play. Five straight from Clarion gave them an 82-81 lead with just over a minute to play. Curtis gave SHU the lead back and
Camden Brewer hit two free throws to give SHU an 85-82 lead with 23 seconds to play. After a Clarion turnover,
Gage Lattimore hit a pair of free throws to close out the win for the Griffins. Â
Meis led the Griffins with 19 points. Ortiz finished with 17 points and Curtis added 11.
SHU will remain home on Saturday as they host CalU in a PSAC West matchup.Â
