Griffins Open PSAC West Play With Win at the Rock

Seton Hill returned to action on Friday evening as they opened PSAC West play on the road at Slippery Rock.  

The Griffins led from start to finish as they opened PSAC West play with an 82-57 victory over the Rock.  SHU improves to 13-1 overall and 7-0 in the PSAC.  

There were three ties over the first four minutes of action before Hallie and Helene Cowan hit back to back three pointers to give the Griffins a 12-6 lead midway through the first quarter.  A layup from Abby Mankins and a Christiane Frye three pointer extended the lead to 19-11 with 1:18 to play.  Shaye Bailey and Mia Kalich closed out the scoring in the quarter with baskets as the Griffins led 23-14 after one quarter of play.  

Over the first four minutes of the second quarter, the Rock outscored the Griffins 8-2 as they cut the SHU lead to 25-22.  Hallie Cowan followed with two free throws and Corinne Eisner drilled a three as the Griffins took a 30-22 lead with 4:31 left in the half.  Two baskets from Hallie Cowan in the final minute of the half pushed the Griffins lead to 36-27 at the halftime break.  

Bailey and Helene Cowan each hit three pointers to open the third quarter as the Griffins built their lead to 42-27 early in the quarter.  A little later in the quarter, Bailey and Cowan hit back to back threes to extend the lead to 48-30 with 6:27 to play.  Back to back layups from Sakeria Haralson and Kalich pused the Griffins lead to 20, 54-34, with 3:43 to play.  The Rock answered with seven straight before the Griffins scored the final four points of the quarter to take a 58-41 lead.  

SHU opened the fourth quarter by scoring the first four points as they pushed their lead to 62-41.  Hallie Cowan hit three straight three pointers midway through the quarter as the Griffins extended their lead to 71-46.  

Hallie Cowan led the Griffins with 23 points.  Helene Cowan added 12 points.  Bailey and Frye also hit double figures with 11 points.  

SHU returns to action at home when they host Clarion in a PSAC West matchup on Wednesday evening.
