Seton Hill headed north to Slippery Rock on Friday evening as they opened PSAC West play.
Slippery Rock outscored the Griffins 45-27 in the second half in route to a 73-61 win over the Griffins. SHU falls to 9-6 overall and 2-5 in the PSAC.
Neither team got off to a quick start as the Rock led the Griffins 5-4 five minutes into the first half. The Rock pushed their lead to 10-6 on a three pointer with 13:38 left in the half. A dunk from
Kaspar Martenson and a layup from
Kedrick Curtis tied the contest at 10 with 12:52 to play. After a three pointer from
Gage Lattimore and a basket from Curtis, SHU led 17-15 midway through the half.
SHU used an 8-2 run over a four minute stretch as they took a 25-19 lead with 4:40 to play in the half.
Edir Ortiz scored five of the eight points in the run.
Ryan Meis hit a three pointer with 50 seconds to play which extended the Griffins lead to 34-26. SHU led 34-28 at the halftime break.
Ortiz scored the first three points of the second half as the Griffins took a 37-28 lead. The Rock answered with an 8-1 run to trim the Griffins lead to 38-36 with 16:46 left. The Rock followed with an 8-5 run as they took a 44-43 lead with 13:22 to play. A pair of Rock threes gave the Rock a 50-47 advantage with just under 11 minutes to play. A three from Meis gave SHU a 52-50 lead midway through the half.
The Rock scored the next eight points as they led 58-52 with 6:22 to play. Ortiz ended a five minute scoring drought with a basket to 60-54 with 4:45 to play. Meis hit a three to cut the lead to 64-59 but the Rock answered right back with a fastbreak layup to push the lead back to seven.
Ortiz led the Griffins with 16 points. Meis finished with 13. Curtis added a double double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Griffins will return home as they host Clarion in another PSAC West contest on Wednesday evening.
