Seton Hill returned to action on Wednesday evening as they continued PSAC West play on the road at Pitt Johnstown.
Four Griffins scored in double figures as Seton Hill defeated Pitt Johnstown by the score of 76-67. SHU is now 18-2 overall and 12-1 in the PSAC.
The Griffins scored the first nine points of the contest as they jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead less than four minutes into the contest.
Helene Cowan scored four of the points and
Abby Mankins hit a three in the run. After a pair of UPJ baskets,
Mia Kalich followed with a three point play and
Shaye Bailey finished a layup as SHU led 14-4 with 3:23 to play. SHU led 19-10 at the end of the quarter after five straight points from
Hailee Ford.
UPJ scored the first four points of the second quarter as they cut the Griffins lead to 19-14. SHU responded with an 8-2 run on four points each from Ford and
Helene Cowan as SHU took a 27-16 lead midway thru the quarter. UPJ responded with an 8-1 run as they cut the Griffins lead to 28-24 with three minutes left.
Helene Cowan scored five points down the stretch as the Griffins took a 35-30 lead into the halftime break.
The Mountain Cats went on an 8-4 run to open the second half and cut the Griffin lead to one. The game was tied at 45 before SHU went on a 9-0 run to take a 54-45 lead with four minutes left in the third quarter.
Hallie Cowan had seven points in the run. UPJ scored the next six points before
Hallie Cowan hit a three at the buzzer to give SHU a 57-51 lead heading to the fourth.
A 6-2 UPJ run trimmed the Griffins lead to 59-57 with 7:39 left in the fourth. Two Kalich baskets and a layin from
Abby Mankins after a Kalich steal gave SHU a 67-59 lead with 3:32 to play. The Mountain Cats got back to within four but two
Helene Cowan free throws pushed the advantage back to 69-63 with 2:32 left.
Hallie Cowan led the Griffins with 18 points.
Helene Cowan added 17 points. Ford finished with 16 points. Kalich posted a double double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.
SHU returns to action at home when they host Slippery Rock in a PSAC West matchup on Saturday afternoon.
