The McKenna Center hosted a top 15 PSAC West battle on Saturday afternoon as the number five Griffins hosted 15th ranked Gannon.
Gannon shot the lights out in the first 15 minutes of the contest as they took a big lead and defeated the Griffins by the score of 89-75. SHU falls to 17-2 overall and 11-1 in the PSAC. Gannon is now 18-3 overall and 10-2 in the PSAC. Â
The Golden Knights jumped out to a 15-4 lead midway through the first quarter. Gannon led 23-8 at the end of the first quarter. Â
Gannon hit six three pointers in the first five minutes of the second quarter as they extended their lead to 45-20. The Golden Knights added two more three pointers over the final three minutes as they led 55-28 at the halftime break. Â
Back to back three pointers from
Hallie Cowan at the end of the third quarter cut the lead to 73-47.
The Griffins outscored the Golden Knights 28-16 in the fourth quarter. Six straight points from
Hailee Ford and a three point play from
Hallie Cowan cut the lead to 85-70 with 1:11 to play.Â
Hallie Cowan then hit a three as SHU trailed 85-73 with less than a minute to play. Â
Hallie Cowan led the Griffins with 22 points and eight rebounds. Ford finished with 19 points.Â
Abby Mankins also reached double figures with 12 points. Â
The Griffins will travel to Pitt Johnstown on Wednesday evening for another PSAC West contest. Â
