Seton Hill opened the home portion of their schedule as they hosted Ohio Dominican on Thursday night in Greensburg.
The Griffins scored the final fourteen points of the contest but it was not enough to overcome a 21-0 deficit and the Griffins rally came up short in a 21-14 loss to the Panthers. SHU drops to 0-2 while ODU improves to 1-0.
Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard in the first quarter of action.
The Panthers took advantage of a controversial non fair catch interference call and took over at the Griffin 31 yard line. They used the short field and scored on a three yard TD pass to take a 7-0 lead with 9:53 left in the first half. With just 12 seconds to play in the half, the Panthers used a 60 yard TD pass to increase their lead to 14-0 at the half.
On their first possession of the second half, Ohio Dominican marched 97 yards in six plays, the final 85 coming on a long touchdown pass as they extended their lead to 21-0 with 8:53 to play. Late in the third quarter,
Jake Cruz connected with
Ethan Fame on a 19 yard touchdown pass to trim the lead to 21-7 with four seconds left in the quarter.
SHU cut the lead to 21-14 after a 10 play, 52 yard drive capped by a one yard run from
Ky'Ron Craggette with 1:59 to play. The Panthers were then able to get a first down and run the clock out to close out the victory.
Craggette rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown. Fame caught six passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Jack Wagner averaged 44.2 yards per punt and landed four inside the 20 yard line.
D'Kairi Boone,
Ritchie McCormack and Richard Johnson Jr each had seven tackles to lead the defense.
