Griffins Fall in Five to Gannon

Seton Hill played their home opener on Saturday afternoon as they hosted Gannon in a PSAC West contest.

The teams battled with the Golden Knights defeating the Griffins in five in a very tightly contested match.  SHU falls to 11-2 overall and 1-1 in the west while Gannon improves to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in the west.  

Gannon used a 10-0 run in the first set as they defeated the Griffins by the score of 25-16.  SHU responded with a 27-25 second set win to even the match at one.  The Griffins led throughout the set and used a Paige Cole kill to end the set.  

The Griffins used a pair of 4-0 runs in the third set to take a 2-1 advantage in the match with a 25-22 third set win.  The Golden Knights jumped out to an early 9-4 lead in the fourth set and then put the set away with a late 4-0 run to even the match at two with a 25-21 set win.  

Seton Hill built an early 5-2 lead in the fifth set behind three kills from Cole and two from Catie Flohr.  Later in the set Gannon used a 4-0 run to take a 10-8 lead.  SHU responded with three in a row, one coming on a block from Abby Oesterling and Flohr and the another on a Flohr kil to take an 11-10 lead.  Gannon then scored five of the next six points to close out the match.  

Cole led the Grififns with 22 kills.  Flohr added 18 kills and Emma Meurer also reached double figures with 11.  Oesterling ran the offense with 54 assists.  Ella Deeter had 17 digs to lead SHU.  Kendyl Wagner finished with 14 and Cole and Maddie Stout each had 12.  

SHU will continue PSAC West play on Tuesday evening as they host Slippery Rock.
