Seton Hill continued PSAC West play as they hosted Slippery Rock on Tuesday evening in the McKenna Center.
Head coach
Rick Hall recorded his 800th career win as the Griffins swept Slippery Rock. SHU is now 12-2 overall and 2-1 in the west while the Rock drops to 7-7 overall and 0-2 in the west.
The Rock used a 5-1 run to break a 12 all tie in the first set. After the Griffins cut the lead to 18-17, the Rock scored four straight to take a 22-17 lead. Down 23-18, the Griffins went on a 6-0 run to take a 24-23 lead.
Catie Flohr and
Devyn Sokol combined on a block and Flohr and
Ella Deeter followed with a block to start the run. Deeter's kill gave SHU a 24-23 lead. After a Rock kill tied the set at 24, Flohr ended the set with a pair of kills as SHU used a 7-1 run to end the first set and take a 1-0 lead.
The second set was not nearly as close as the Griffins used a pair of 4-0 runs to build a 12-6 lead. SHU closed out the set on a 4-0 run on kills from Sokol and Cole and solo blocks from Cole and Flohr as SHU took a 2-0 lead in the match. The Griffins scored five of the first six points in the third set and never looked back. The Rock trimmed the lead to four later in the set but kills from
Kendyl Wagner, Deeter and an ace from
Abby Oesterling pushed the lead back to 19-12. SHU closed out the match by winning the final five points of the third set.
Cole led the Griffins with 12 kills. Flohr added 11. Deeter had 19 assists while Oesterling finished with 18. Flohr had eight blocks while Deeter added seven. Wagner led SHU with 13 digs and
Maddie Stout finished with 10.
Seton Hill will continue PSAC West play on Friday evening as they travel to California (PA).
