Softball Wins a Pair at PSAC Tourney

Seton Hill returned to action in the 2024 PSAC Softball Championships with an elimination contest against Bloomsburg at Veterans Park in Quakertown, PA. 
 
SHU remained alive in the tournament with an 8-0, five inning win over Bloomsburg in game on on the day.    SHU kept its season going with a 10-5 win over Ship in game two.  The Griffins are now 36-16 overall. 
 
SHU took a 2-0 lead over the Huskies in the bottom of the second inning.  With one out, Brooklyn Fukushima singled and moved to third on an error.  Lauren Dellett walked and stole second to put runners on second and third.  After an out, Mackenzie Zang came through with a clutch two out, two RBI single on a 3-2 pitch to give the Griffins the advantage. 
 
The Griffins added two more in the fourth with two outs.  Dellett singled and scored on a two run homer to left center from Brooke Cleland to extend the lead to 4-0.
 
SHU ended the game in the fifth.  Nina Grandey drew a leadoff walk.  She stole second and moved to third on an error.  Grace Paredes reached on a fielders choice and Juliette Vybiral stole second to put runners on second and third.  Morgan Toal drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.  Fukushima added the sixth run with a single.  Dellett doubled to put two on.  Cleland walked to load the bases.  Zang reached on an error to make it 7-0 and Kassidy Wittig walked it off with a single. 
 
Dellett earned the win with a complete game five hitter.  She struck out one.  Dellett and Fukushima each had two hits.   
 
The Griffins took a 1-0 lead over Ship in the second game of the day.  Wittig walked and moved to second on a Grandey ground out.  She scored on a two out RBI single from Grace Paredes
 
Ship tied the score at one in the top of the second.  The Griffins got that run right back in the second.  Fukushima singled and later scored on a Zang double. 
 
The Griffins added two more in the third.  Murphy drew a leadoff walk.  She scored on a double from Paredes.  Pinch runner Vybiral later scored on a Fukushima sacrifice fly.  The Raiders tied the score at four in the top of the fourth. 
 
The Griffins responded in the bottom half of the inning.  Dellett singled to lead off the inning and was forced out when Wittig reached on a fielders choice.  Grandey reached on a bunt base hit.  Camryn Murphy then blasted a homer to center field that put the Griffins in front 7-4.  Toal reached on an error and scored on an RBI single from Fukushima that extended the lead to 8-4.
 
The Raiders got one of the runs back in the top of the sixth.  SHU answered that one right back with an oppo taco from Paredes to push the lead back to 9-5.    Toal walked and scored on a Cleland liner off the Wawa sign in right center. 
 
Paredes led the offense with three hits including a homer. Fukushima added two hits and drove in two. Murphy added a three run homer. Logan Hartman picks up her 21st win.

The Griffins will play the winner of the East Stroudsburg and CalU game on Friday at 12:30 PM in another elimination game.
