Seton Hill began their final four game PSAC West series as they traveled to Erie for a PSAC West doubleheader with Gannon on Thursday afternoon.
SHU took game one by the score of 6-0 to open the doubleheader. The Griffins completed the sweep of Gannon with a 10-4 win in game two. SHU is now 35-12 overall and 19-7 in the west.
The Griffins led after two batters in game one.
Jack Whalen singled and stole second. He scored on an RBI single from
Jack Oberdorf.
SHU added another run in the second. With two outs,
Owen Sabol doubled. He scored on a double from
Matt Frazetta.
Seton Hill added on in the sixth.
Max Mandler and
Elijah Snider walked while
Braden Durham reached on a bunt base hit to load the bases. Mandler scored on an Sabol ground out. Frazetta then knocked in two runs with a double as SHU built their lead to 5-0.
SHU added an unearned run in the top of the seventh.
Brandon Bergert went the distance for the complete game shutout. He allowed four hits and struck out six. Sabol and Frazetta each had two hits and Frazetta drove in three.
Gannon took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game two.
SHU answered in the top of the second with two outs.
Owen Mandler singled Durham followed with a single to put two on.
Jakob Haynes walked to load the bases and
Owen Henne drew a bases loaded walk to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Griffins took the lead in the third. Oberdorf walked to lead off the inning and moved to third on a
Max Mandler double. Sabol reached on an error with Oberdorf scoring to tie the game at two. Later in the inning,
Owen Mandler singled to score Sabol and put SHU in front 3-2.
Gannon retook the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third. The Griffins took the lead in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Oberdorf and Whalen scoring on an error.
The Griffins added two more on a Haynes homer in the fifth. Sweeney and Sabol added runs in the sixth and Oberdorf drove in the final run of the contest.
Owen Mandler and Henne each had two hits. Oberdorf and Haynes drove in two.
The Griffins will close out the regular season with a PSAC West Doubleheader with Gannon in Greensburg on Friday afternoon.
