Griffins Steal One from Millersville in Regional

Seton Hill continued play in the 2024 NCAA Atlantic Regional with an elimination game with third seed Millersville on Saturday afternoon at Creekview Park in Stroudsburg, PA.

SHU rallied from a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 victory to keep their season alive and advance to their fourth straight Atlantic Regional final.  SHU scored the game winning run on a double steal.  The Griffins are now 38-15 overall while Millersville ends the season with a 38-16 record.

Millersville got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning.  After one out, the strung together a single, walk, double and sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead over the Griffins.

The Griffins tied the game at two in the top of the fifth inning.  With one out, Jack Oberdorf singled thru the right side of the infield.  Owen Mandler then hit the first pitch he saw over the left field wall to tie the game at two.

The game remained tied at two until the seventh inning.  Noah Sweeney singled to lead off the inning.  He moved to second on a ground out and then to third on an infield single from Max Mandler.  Mandler and Sweeney then executed a perfect double steal on a 1-2 count to put the Griffins in front.

The Griffins were able to keep Millersville off the scoreboard with a few great defensive plays down the stretch.  SHU erased a leadoff walk in the eighth with a 1-6-3 double play and Sweeney made a diving catch in the right center field gap for the second out of the ninth inning to steal a sure double from a Marauder.

Jon McCullough earned the win.  He went 6.2 innings, allowed two runs on two hits and struck out seven.  Ian Korn earned the save with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.  He allowed just one hit to earn the save.  Sweeney and Owen Mandler each had two hits for the Griffins.

SHU will play East Stroudsburg in the Regional Final beginning at 11 AM on Sunday.  SHU will need to defeat the Warriors twice to win the regional.
