One Inning Costly at NCAA Atlantic Regional

Seton Hill continued play in the NCAA Atlantic Regional #2 in Stroudsburg at Creekview Park as they battled the host East Stroudsburg in the 1-0 contest of the regional.

The Griffins built a 4-0 lead after three innings but East Stroudsburg scored six runs, all after two outs as they defeated the Griffins 6-5 to send the Griffins to the elimination bracket.  SHU is now 37-15 overall.  ESU improves to 43-12.

It did not take the Griffins long to score as they took the lead in the bottom of the first inning.  With one out, Jack Oberdorf doubled to right center field.  Owen Mandler followed with an infield single to put runners on first and second.  Elijah Snider then executed a perfect hit a run as he singled right past a moving second baseman to score Oberdorf and give SHU a 1-0 lead.

The Griffins added another run in the second.  With one out, Braden Durham doubled.  Noah Sweeney singled to put runners on first and third.  Owen Henne followed with a sacrifice fly to right center to score Durham and extend the lead to 2-0.

SHU added two more in the third, all after two outs.  With one out, Snider drew a walk.  Max Mandler drew a two out walk to put two runners on.  Matt Frazetta singled to right center to score Snider.  Durham followed with an RBI single thru the left side of the infield to score Mandler and extend the lead to 4-0.

East Stroudsburg scored six times in the top of the fourth inning, all six runs after two outs as they took a 6-4 lead over the Griffins.  The big hit was a three run homer to center field that put the Warriors on top by two.

SHU cut the Warriors lead in half in the bottom of the eighth but left the tying run at third in the inning.  Max Mandler drew a leadoff walk.  He scored on a double to right center field from Frazetta.  Durham followed with a sacrifice bunt to put the tying run at third with one out but a ground out and pop out to short ended the threat.

The Griffins will now play an elimination game against Millersville at 11 AM on Saturday morning.  SHU will need to win three straight contest to win the regional.
