Griffins Drop PSAC Semifinal to #12 Kutztown

For the second time in school history, the Griffin women's lacrosse program hosted the PSAC Final Four.  On Friday afternoon, the Griffins hosted #12 Kutztown in the first of the two PSAC Semifinals.  

The Golden Bears outscored the Griffins 7-3 in the second half as they rallied for a 13-10 victory over the Griffins.  SHU falls to 13-5 overall while Kutztown improves to 15-4.  

The Griffins opened the scoring in the contest with a free position goal from Skylar Orlowski at the 10:30 mark of the quarter. Just over a minute later, Kutztown tied the score at one.  SHU took a 3-1 lead on a pair of goals just over a minute apart.  Ella Wroblewski scored with 7:45 to play in the quarter and Orlowski followed with a goal at the 6:19 mark.  The Golden Bears scored with just 15 seconds to play in the quarter to cut the SHU lead to 3-2.  

Less than a minute into the second quarter, Kutztown tied the contest at three.  Two minutes later, Mila Udovicic scored to put the Griffins back in front.  Kutztown tied the score at four with a goal at the 8:20 mark.  Piper Conlan scored back to back goals a miniute a part to put the Griffins in front 6-4.  The Golden Bears scored two of the final three goals of the half to cut the Griffins lead to 7-6.  Brooklyn Miller scored the SHU goal.  

Just sixteen seconds into the second half, Conlan scored to extend the SHU lead to 8-6.  Kutztown then ran off three straight to take a 9-8 lead with 9:04 to play in the quarter.  Conlan scored again with 4:53 to play to tie the contest at nine.  The Golden Bears scored the final goal of the third quarter and then scored the first goal of the fourth quarter as they built an 11-9 lead.  Conlan scored with 6:24 to play in the fourth and trimmed the lead to one but Kutztown scored two more goals for the victory.  

The stats in the contest were pretty even.  The teams each had 13 draw controls.  Kutztown held a 33-30 advantage in shots.  SHU held a 12-9 advantage in saves.  

Conlan led the Griffins with five goals.  Orlowski finished with two goals and two assists.  Udovicic added a goal and assist.  Makayla Kintner had four caused turnovers and Giavonna Spadafora added three.  Udovicic led with eight draw controls.  Allison Hathaway recorded 12 saves in net.

The Griffins must now wait and see if they earn an at large bid in the NCAA Tournament when the bracket is released on Sunday night.
