Griffins Sweep PSAC West Doubleheader at Clarion

Seton Hill continued PSAC West play as they traveled to Clarion on Tuesday afternoon.  

The Griffins won game one by a 19-3 score in five innings then completed the sweep with an 8-1 win in game two.  SHU is now 24-8 overall and 12-2 in the west.  

SHU took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one.  Grace Paredes was hit by a pitch and Morgan Toal walked.  Brooke Cleland followed with a homer to center field.  

Clarion scored twice in the bottom half of the inning.  SHU added two more runs in the second inning.  Lauren Dellett singled and scored on a Nina Grandey homer as SHU took a 5-2 lead.  

Seton Hill added five more runs in the third.  Brooklyn Fukushima had a two run double.  Mackenzie Zang added an RBI double.  Grandey knocked in a run with a single and later scored on an error as SHU took a 10-2 lead.  

Cleland, Fukushima and Dellett each added RBis in the fourth.  

SHU added six more in the fifth.  Abby Smearman singled in a run.  Alexis Bonatch drew a bases loaded walk.  Angelina LaMarca closed out the scoring with a grand slam.  

Cleland was 3-3 with 4 RBI.  Grandey and Delett each added two hits.  Dellett earned the win in the circle.  She struck out nine and walked none.  

The Griffins cracked the scoreboard in the third inning of game two.  Zang was hit by a pitch to open the inning.  Grandey walked and both runners scored on a three run bomb from Camryn Murphy.  

Clarion picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the third. 

SHU then struck for five in the sixth inning.  Cleland drew a leadoff walk.  After two ground outs, Zang and Bre Athey followed with RBI singles.  Later in the inning, Paredes cleared the bases with a bases loaded double.  

Murphy and Zang each had two hits.  Logan Hartman earned her 13th win of the season with another complete game effort.  She allowed just two htis and no earned runs while striking out 10.

SHU will travel to CalU for another PSAC West doubleheader on Wednesday.
