Hartman’s One Hitter Carries Griffins to Doubleheader Sweep

Seton Hill continued play with a PSAC West doubleheader in Greensburg against Slippery Rock on Sunday afternoon.

Seton Hill won game one by the score of 9-1 in six innings.  SHU completed the sweep with a 7-0 win in game two behind a one hitter from Logan Hartman.  SHU is now 22-8 overall and 10-2 in the west.

The Rock took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning of game two with a solo homer with one out in the inning.

The Griffins took advantage of some Slippery Rock miscues to take the lead in the third.  Lauren Dellett led off the inning with an infield single.  Nina Grandey then reached on an error that allowed the runners to move to second and third.  Both runners then scored on wild pitches to give the Griffins a 2-1 lead.

SHU added four more in the fourth inning. Kassidy Wittig walked and Brooklyn Fukushima singled to put two runners on.  Brooke Cleland singled thru the middle to score Wittig.  Lauren Dellett made it 4-2 with a sacrifice fly that scored Fukushima.  Mackenzie Zang followed with an RBI single and Camryn Murphy increased the lead to 6-2 with an RBI double.

The Griffins won the game in the sixth.  Dellett was hit by a pitch with one out.  Zang and Grandey both singled to load the bases.  Dellett scored on a wild pitch and both Zang and Grandey scored when Murphy reached on an error.

Zang led the offense with two hits.  Murphy knocked in two runs.  Dellett earned her 10th win of the season.  She struck out nine and walked one.

The Griffins got on the board in the third inning of game two.  With two outs, Grandey singled.  She stole second and moved to third on a throwing error.  She scored when Murphy reached on an error.

SHU added three more in fourth with the long ball.  Morgan Toal led off the inning with a solo shot to left.  With one out, Fukushima singled and scored on a two run shot from Cleland.

The Griffins increased their lead to 5-0 in the sixth with a solo shot from Cleland off the scoreboard in left.  Later in the inning, Abby Smearman tripled with one out.  Grandey walked and stole second and both scored on a single from Grace Paredes to give SHU a 7-0 lead.

Hartman improved to 12-3 on the season.  She allowed just the one single and struck out nine.  Toal and Cleland each had two hits.  Cleland had two homers.
