Seton Hill returned to the field for the first time in eight days with a PSAC West doubleheader in Greensburg against Indiana (PA) on Saturday afternoon.
SHU defeated IUP 14-6 in six innings in game one. The Griffins completed the sweep with a, 11-6 win in game two. SHU is now 20-8 overall and 8-2 in the west.
The Griffins took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game one.
Nina Grandey drew a leadoff walk. She scored on a two run bomb to left center field from
Grace Paredes.
SHU added ten more in the second inning.
Kassidy Wittig doubled to lead off the inning.
Brooke Cleland drew a walk and
Lauren Dellett followed with a three run bomb to left center to give the Griffins a 5-0 lead.
Mackenzie Zang was hit by a pitch. Grandey and
Camryn Murphy singled to load the bases. Paredes followed with a two RBI single to increase the lead to 7-0. SHU added two more runs on wild pitches before Wittig added two more runs on a double. Wittig made it 12-0 when she scored on a Dellett RBI ground out.
IUP picked up four in the third and two in the fifth to cut the Griffins lead to 12-6.
SHU then ended it in the sixth. Cleland homered to make it 13-6. Zang drew a two out walk and scored on a Murphy double for the run rule win.
Murphy, Paredes and Wittig each had two hits. Paredes drove in four. Dellett also added four RBIs. She struck out nine in the complete game win.
IUP took a 2-0 lead over the Griffins in game two of the doubleheader. SHU got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning. Grandey reached on a bunt base hit to lead off the inning. She stole second and scored on a throwing error to cut the lead to 2-1.
Zang homered with two outs in the bottom of the second to tie the game at two.
The Griffins took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Wittig singled to start the inning and stole a bag. She scored on a Cleland double. Zang followed with a two run shot to center to give SHU a 5-2 lead.
Bre Athey later walked and scored on an RBI single from Paredes as SHU took a 6-2 lead.
IUP scored four times in the top of the fifth to tie the score at six.
The Griffins retook the lead on a one out solo shot from Cleland. Zang walked and Athey singled. Grandey followed with a two RBI double to extend the Griffins lead to 9-6. Murphy and Paredes each added RBI hits to push the lead to 11-6.
Grandey led the offense with three hits. Paredes, Cleland and Zang each added two hits. Zang homered twice.
Logan Hartman earned her 11
th win of the season.
The Griffins will return to action on Sunday when they host Slippery Rock in a PSAC West doubleheader.
