Griffins Play Long Ball in Sweep of UPJ

Seton Hill returned to PSAC West play as they traveled to Johnstown for a doubleheader with Pitt Johnstown on Saturday afternoon. 
 
The Griffins defeated UPJ 13-4 in the first game of the doubleheader.  SHU completed the sweep with a 11-1 win in game two.  SHU is now 19-9 overall and 6-4 in the west. 
 
The Griffins scored a run in the top of the first.  Owen Henne led off the game with a single.  Owen Mandler drew a walk to put two runners on.  Henne moved to third on a fly out and then scored on a double steal to give SHU a 1-0 lead. 
 
SHU added a run in the second.  Max Mandler singled to lead off the inning.  He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a two out single from Jack Whalen
 
Seton Hill added four more in the fourth.  Owen Sabol drew a leadoff walk.  Max Mandler singled to put two runners on.  Braden Durham loaded the bases with a bunt base hit.  After a ground out, Mandler scored on a sacrifice fly from Whalen.  Henne and Owen Mandler walked and then two runners scored on an RBI single from Jack Oberdorf
 
SHU added three more in the fifth.  Elijah Snider with an RBI single and Henne added two RBIs with a double to left center.  SHU then put up a four spot in the sixth.  Max Mandler with a three run bomb over the huge wall in left.  Snider then followed with a bomb to left center that gave SHU a 13-0 lead. 
 
Max Mandler led the offense with four hits and three RBIs.  Oberdorf added three hits and two RBIs.  Henne and Snider each added two hits.  Brandon Bergert earned the win.  He struck out five in four innings.    
 
SHU picked up a run in the first inning of game two thanks to a throwing error on a double steal that allowed Owen Mandler to score. 
 
The Griffins added two more in the third on a two run blast from Max Mandler that scored Oberdorf who walked. 
 
Seton Hill made it 4-0 in the fourth.  Snider walked to lead off the inning.  He moved to third on a Jakob Haynes single and scored on a Whalen sac fly.  The Griffins continued to play long ball in the fifth.  Snider and Whalen each hit two run homers to left center to increase the Griffin lead to 8-0. 
 
UPJ got a run back in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 8-1.  The Griffins got that run back in the top of the sixth on a Snider sacrifice fly. 
 
Oberdorf, Snider, Haynes and Whalen each had two hits.  Jon McCullough earned the win with six innings of five hit ball.  He struck out 8 and walked none. 
 
The Griffins will conclude the four game PSAC West set on Sunday with a doubleheader in Greensburg against UPJ.
