Softball Swept at Home by CalU

Seton Hill closed out the home portion of their schedule with a pair of games against California (PA) on Tuesday afternoon.

The Vulcan pitchers held the Griffin hitters at bay as they swept the Griffins with a pair of one run games.  CalU took game one by the score of 3-2 and then completed the sweep with a 2-1 win in game two.  CalU is 20-17 overall and 18-11 in the west while the Griffins fall to 34-12 overall and 22-6 in the west.

Seton Hill took the early lead in game one.  Brooklyn Fukushima singled to lead off the second.  She moved to second on a groundout from Lauren DellettAbby Smearman then singled to left center field to score Fukushima and give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.

CalU responded with back to back RBI doubles after a single and walk opened the third inning as the Vulcans took a 3-1 lead.

SHU threatened in the bottom half of the inning when Grace Paredes doubled with one out but she was out at the plate on a Kassidy Wittig single to end the inning.

Fukushima homered to lead off the fourth inning and trim the lead to 3-2.

Fukushima led the offense going 3-3 with a homer.  Camryn Murphy and Smearman each added two hits.

CalU took a 1-0 lead in game two with a homer with one out in the top of the first.

The Griffins tied the game in the bottom of the first inning.  With one out, Murphy doubled.  Paredes walked to put two runners on.  After a line out, Wittig singled to score Murphy and tie the game at one.

The Vulcans used some small ball to take the lead in the sixth.  After a leadoff single, a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to second and they followed with an RBI single to take a 2-1 lead.

Murphy and Wittig each had two hits.

SHU will travel to Slippery Rock on Friday for another PSAC West doubleheader.
