Softball Swept at the Rock

Seton Hill began the final weekend of PSAC West play with a doubleheader in Slippery Rock against the Rock on Friday afternoon.   The Rock won game one 4-3 in 8 innings and completed the sweep with a 6-5 win in game two.  SHU is now 34-14 overall and 22-8 in the west.
 
Slippery Rock used a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Griffins. 
 
The Griffins tied the game in the third.  Mackenzie Zang singled to lead off the inning.  She moved to second on a ground out and scored when Camryn Murphy singled.  The Rock retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning on a fielders choice. 
 
SHU used back to back walks Murphy and Grace Paredes and a fielders choice to put runners on first and third with one out.  A ground ball turned into a double play with an out at the plate and one at third ending the inning.  The Rock increased their lead to 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
 
SHU tied the score in the top of the seventh.  Lauren Dellett homered to lead off the inning.  Brooke Cleland singled with Bre Athey taking over to run.  Kassidy Wittig reached on an error and after a strikeout, Murphy singled past the second baseman to score Athey and tie the score at three. 
 
The Rock then walked off game one in the eighth.
 
Murphy and Toal each had two hits.  Murphy drove in two. 
 
The Rock took an early 2-0 lead in game two on a two run homer in the bottom of the first inning. 
 
Slippery Rock added one in the second and one in the fourth on solo homers to take a 4-0 lead. 
 
SHU got on the board in the fifth.  Wittig and Nina Grandey singled.  Both scored on a three run shot to center from Grace Paredes to trim the lead to 4-3.  The Rock added a run in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead.
 
The Griffins tied the game at five in the sixth.  Wittig reached on an error.  Grandey then reached on a fielders choice and stole second.  Murphy walked and Paredes walked to load the bases.  Toal then drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run.  Dellett singled to tie the game at five. 
 
Slippery Rock scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Paredes led the offense with three hits, a homer and 3 RBI.  Fukushima and Wittig each with two hits.
 
The Griffins will return to action on Saturday when they travel to IUP for a PSAC West doubleheader to close out the regular season.
