Seton Hill continued PSAC West play with a doubleheader in Edinboro against the Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins won game one by a 14-5 score in six innings. SHU completed the sweep with an 8-1 win in game two. Seton Hill is now 34-10 overall and 22-4 in the PSAC West.
SHU took an early lead in game one after just two batters.
Nina Grandey doubled to lead off the game and scored when
Camryn Murphy singled. Edinboro struck for three runs in their half of the first as they took a 3-1 lead.
The Griffins answered back with four runs in the second.
Lauren Dellett reached on an error to open the inning.
Abby Smearman was hit by a pitch. Grandey walked to load the bases. Murpy then doubled to clear the bases and put the Griffins in front 4-2. Later in the inning, Murphy scored on a
Morgan Toal RBI groundout.
Seton Hill added four more in the fourth. After an out, Grandey doubled and Murphy walked.
Grace Paredes singled to score Grandey. Toal followed with an RBI single. Paredes scored on a RBI groundout from
Kassidy Wittig.
Brooklyn Fukushima increased the lead to 9-3 with an RBI single.
Edinboro picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth. The Griffins added two more in the fifth on RBI doubles from
Brooke Cleland and Grandey.
Dellett and Smearman had RBI doubles in the sixth with Smearman scoring on a passed ball to increase the lead to 14-4.
Grandey, Toal and Fukushima each had three hits. Murphy and Paredes each added two hits. Dellett earned her 15
th win with a complete game effort. She struck out nine.
SHU took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two. Murphy reached on an error and later stole third and scored on a throwing error. Toal doubled and scored on a Wittig RBI hit. Witting later scored on an error.
The Griffins added on in the third. With one out, Paredes singled and Toal doubled. Paredes scored when Wittig reached on a fielders choice.
Edinboro got a run in the bottom of the fourth. SHU added four more in the fifth. Paredes singled to lead off the inning. Pinch hitter
Alexis Bonatch scored on an error when Toal doubled. Toal then scored on a caught stealing. Fukushima walked and scored when Zang reached on an error. Zang then scored when
Lacey Lynn reached on an error to give SHU an 8-1 lead.
Toal led the offense with three doubles. Wittig also had three hits. Paredes finished with two hits.
Logan Hartman earned her 19
th win of the season with another complete game. She struck out two.
The Griffins will return to action on Tuesday when they host to CalU for a PSAC West doubleheader.
